North Whidbey Fire and Rescue Board of Commissioners approved the implementation of the “Paid On Call” shift program to accommodate its expanding call volume and service to North Whidbey Island. The POC’s, work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and consist of two firefighters working two, 12 hour shifts. The POC’s are medically qualified and attend weekly training to enhance their skill as responders.

The program kicked off May 21, 2007 and has been a success every since! This program has many benefits such as: faster response time to emergency calls, regular station maintenance, minor apparatus maintenance, and the fulfillment of various operational and administrative duties, to name a few.

If you have any questions or comments about the program or would like information on how to become a Paid On Call firefighter, contact Chief Koorn at chief@startouch.net or EMS Chief, Larry Wall at emschief@startouch.net
